When Kazakhstan was a Soviet Republic May 1 was known as International Day of the Workers' Solidarity but it was re-named the Day of Peoples' Unity by Kazakh Presidential Decree in 1995. Both former and current capitals (Almaty and Astana) organize festivities on that day.
