Secular holiday : Lao Women’s Union (LWU) is a mass and social organization of women at all strata throughout Lao P.D.R. It is part of Lao People’s Democratic Republic system. It was officially established in 1955. The history of LWU was closely attached to the country’s history for national liberation and development.

Buddhism (Theravada) : For a period of 3 months, Buddhists priests have to meditate in temples and observe strict rules. Young men are also enrolled in temples on that day, until Auk Phansa -- full moon of October, the official end of the rainy season.
