Saturday July 15, 2017
Secular holiday : In 1624, the city of Palermo was ravaged by the plague. The population relied in vain on the holy patrons of the city: St. Agatha, St. Christina, Santa Ninfa and Sant'Oliva.
During this crisis, according to legend, the then little-known Santa Rosalia appeared to a shepherd named Vincenzo Bonello, indicating the location of he relics and instructing that only if these relics were carried in procession would the plague end, which happened a few days after the procession.
